Update: Thanks again for everyone for coming to our fourth screening with the Crocker Cinema Club. Lily Rushing did an amazing job in conducting the tour for our water themed Thelmarama screening. She showcased many amazing pieces throughout the museum. Thelma ended up choosing August in the Water.
For this screening we are exploring themes of water within the Crocker Art Museum's art collection. Thelma's choices are Pauline at the Beach (1983) a French romance comedy directed by Éric Rohmer, The Swimmer (1968) an American drama film directed by Frank Perry, and August in the Water (1995) a Japanese sci-fi drama directed by Gakuryu Ishii.
Local cinema club Thelmarama takes up residence at the Crocker to lead a film journey through the Museum’s permanent collection. This residency, which will span six individual screenings across the 2026 calendar year, uses the medium of film to explore themes, ideas, and artistic movements present in the galleries. Each screened film will be a surprise, so embrace adventure and join us for a fun-filled evening!
